This past weekend, the Youth Missions Organization held their second annual Rockathon! Rocking Chairs for 24 hours. Tired and groggy, but still exuding enthusiasm for their upcoming mission, the group proudly represented their cause at the 730am service.
On June 7, 2014, at 4am the bus will once again leave Grace Hinsdale Episcopal Church heading to Bluff, Utah, and the St. Christopher's Mission just about 2 miles outside of Bluff.
The Mission was originally built in 1943 by Baxter Liebler, an Episcopal priest from Old Greenwich, Connecticut. It was names St. Christopher's Mission after the patron said of travelers. St Christopher’s Mission is now part of the Episcopal Church in Navajoland.
This year, the YMO group's mission will be to build a traditional hogan for Catherine Plummer, the wife of the late Rt. Rev. Steven Tsosie Plummer, who was the first Navajo bishop in the Episcopal Church. Catherine was ordained in 2013 and grew up with the aforementioned Baxter Liebler as her teacher and priest. She became the second Navajo woman to serve as a priest. Today, she lives in a trailer about 9 miles outside of Bluff, a trailer that has been condemned as it is unlivable.
This past weekend, the YMO raised funds to build Catherine Plummer a traditional hogan home.
All donations are gratefully received and welcomed! To donate, please simply send a note to one of the youth involved or, alternatively to the blog master, Louise Meyer ( louise.meyer@leonardo.com ) and she will direct the pledge. Please indicate the amount of your donation and that it is for Y.M.O. Mission trip.
